Yes, they will place a centered soloist dead center. And he or she will be living, breathing, with a chest as well as head, not to mention tongue, teeth, and airway. If they're smiling, or wracked with anguish, you'll know.If they're just walking through a studio take, you'll know that, too, and it will be one of the few times you won't feel rude in cutting them off in mid-performance to change to something more heart-felt.
Sections of an orchestra are positioned properly, as well. You can clearly place them as they come in and out, hopefully as the conductor commands. What you won't be sure of is whether it was the first or second violinist's cummerbund exploding, or how many passengers were on the subway running under the hall.
