Never heard the ProAc 3.8 but I have heard the Response 4, and I think the Extrema wins the transparency thing for the treble. The Extrema's treble sounds thicker and more detailed. In the midrange however, the Response 4 which has ATC dome midrange drivers is more transparent and more detailed compared to the Extrema's generic fullness. And the Response 4 hands down beat the Extrema when it comes to bass dynamics and extension. Which is musical? I guess it depends on your taste - if you want sweet, rich dark romantic flavor, then the Extrema is more musical. OTOH, if you detest rich and dark, then go ProAc. Me - I like both. (and for the record, prefer either Extrema or Response 4 to those thin sounding ProAc Future series)
