An excellent question indeed. I suppose that much of the answer depends upon how much support you think you'll get from the company a couple of years down the line. If the company's gone belly-up, the value of the product will most definitely go down UNLESS the product has some type of mystical reputation that will keep it in demand by collectors. Paradigm shows no indication of going out of business, so they'll probably do repairs for a few years...at some undetermined cost...perhaps reasonable, perhaps not. Personally, I'd take a pass on the Active 40s, although I'm a big proponent of active speakers.
