Re: refoaming Infinity speakers

I reconed speakers for over 20 years. No way to insure proper voice coil centering when re-foaming without putting shims between the center pole piece and the voice coil.
You can remove the piece your reference but depending on the glue and amount used it may be next to impossible without damaging the v.c.
If this happens then your up for a complete recone.
Also - Depending on how long you used your speakers with rotted foam you may need a recone anyway. If the v.c. was rubbing the magnet for any length of time you could have damaged the voice coil.
Be sure to glue both caps back in place. Many times this heavy sub-dustcap is actually just put there to adjust the mass of the cone assembly which is tuned to the speaker enclosure.
Good Luck
