Opinions on Proac Studio 2?

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy Proac Studio 2 speakers in excellent condition. The seller (a dealer) is asking $700 USD. He says they originally retailed for $1600.
I have heard the speakers in his shop, and they look and sound great, but I have a couple of concerns:
1. I'm not sure how old these speakers are, but they must be at least 10 years old.
2. My current amp is an Anthem Amp 1, a 40 wpc push-pull tube amp with EL-34 output tubes and 4 and 8 ohm outputs. Would this amp be suitable for the proacs? My room is smallish (approx 12 X 15) and my musical tastes are mostly acoustic small ensembles (jazz, chamber, bluegrass) which should be good for this kind of monitor speaker.
Can I do better for $700? Is the price too high? Is it risky to buy an older speaker such as this? Thanks for any tips.
