I feel for you, I really do.For my main room, I have CDM7NTS and CDMCNT in a surround configuration, and I experience the "hard, metallic sound" you are referring to :-(
For the computer room, I have DM601S2, NAD power amp, Rotel pre amp - that combination sounds really sweet, but probably below the quality you are looking for.
Have you tried the Dynaudios? A friend of mine evaluated the CDMNT series, but then said he heard the Countour 1.2??? and it blew him away.
