From a commercial standpoint I would take a look the new speaker from Definitive Technology, The PM-500, PM-70,BP2006TL.As far as kits go, there are several designs out there which are very good, one that might interest you is the ProAc Response 2.5 clone. The cost of building a pair of these is around $800 US.
