Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: What is a full range speaker

Mine is 20 to 20KHz +/- 1dB. And let me tell you, that full extension really makes the difference. Though most music may not go down to 20Hz, the fact that your speaker has that ability makes its performance at higher frequencies totally effortless. I was listening the other night to some music. The bass was sooooo clean and smooth. Just a total joy to listen to. I have NEVER heard so much clean bass before.

I have a pretty good car system, Nakamichi. I listened to a CD several times in my car. When I put the CD in my home system, I was surprised. The bass was so different. With some songs it was almost like listening to it for the first time.

I put a song on my Home theater system and let my son with enviable 14 year old ears listen to the music. Then I put the song on my stereo system. The odd thing is the major difference was the midrange. The voices sounded so much better. My home theater system with its 15 inch 400 watt servo sub can pump out the bass, though not as cleanly, but there is just no substitution for 300 lb speakers with some good stuff feeding them.
