Angstrom Obbligato tweeters

198.168.182.178

A year ago I bought Angstrom Obbligatos; they have many virtues, but I finally got fed up with the lack of upper range bite and shimmer. On the point of trading, I decided to investigate the effects and nature of the small rear-firing tweeter--the main tweeter is a Focal 90 td., 8 ohms. The rear tweeter is a Cadence 4 ohm unit fed by a small cap (.5 mfd) coming in around 8,000 h. What seemed to be happening was that the rear tweeter (of dubious quality, a 1/2 inch mylar diaphragm and doubtless high suspension resonance point) was drawing current away from the main tweeter, leading to a lack of upper range bite. Disconnecting it improved things, but I miss the space and ambience provided by the bipolar radiation. So I have a question; does anyone have any experience with the Eton CX 260 fabric car tweeter, which would fit perfectly? Or, if I go for more substantial modifications, any suggestions for a 6 or better 8 ohm tweeter with excellent high (5,000--20,000 h) performance, reasonable efficiency, and fairly low mechanical resonance (will be connected via a simple 6 db cap). I have thought of the Seas 19 TAF/D, or at a higher price Scan Speak D 2008/8512? Any information welcome; and any Obbligato owners out there who have similar plans or thoughts? Chris.
