If you get the right sub and set it up correctly, you'll want to use it 100% of the time. The two subs that meet my personal criteria are the RELs and the ACI Titan IIs. The Titan II being my choice because it offers equal or better performance at less cost. Yes, I have directly compared them. Using ACIs passive high-pass filters will reduce the low frequency load on your main amps and the Thiels. You'll find that not only will the low bass be improved, but the upperbass and lower midrange as well. It is also likely that you will find a larger, more ambient soundstage. Not subtle improvements, major improvments.
