Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Aesthetic speaker choice help.

I am looking for suggestions for a new speaker to replace my aging MB Quart 980s.
My girlfriend is moving in and we have decided to rearrange the living room.
The audio system will now be setup in a less than optimal position in my triangular
shaped room (of about 25 sq mtrs).
I will attempt to counteract the acoustic horrors with a Behringer Ultracurve but
I suspect I will still lose a bit. I lifestyle priorities have changed so a little loss of hifi realism is fine.
Regardless I am looking for a pair of nice looking and sounding floor standing speakers.
The MB Quarts are quite elegant - very similar to the Dali Evidence 870, size, shape,
finish, driver complement and glass plate on top!! - but they can probably be improved
upon sonically.

The heart of my system will not change: a pair of Wavac MD811s and a Yamaha GT-CD1.
Together these look and sound great and complement each other perfectly.
Each has solid cherry wood fascias, powdered metal paint and glass canopy.

So I'm looking for elegant floorstanders that have a cherry finish (or near enough),
can be easily driven by a pair of bi-amped 15W SETs and is suitable for vocals,
jazz, ambient and light rock. Smoothness of mids and airiness are my main concerns.
Budget is about USD5000-7000.

Given these criteria, can anybody suggest speakers to shortlist.
I've heard the Dali Grand and SF Gauneri Homage, the Dali is my preference of these.

Thanks,
Jeff
