Re: Power amp for Aerius i

Amp for the Aerius i ?

These speakers can take as good an amp as you can buy for them,...but they'll sound great without getting too crazy.

Some amps (some already mentioned):

BAT VK-200 (and liked the BAT pre's both with this amp and other amps)
Pass Aleph 0s (extremely good stereo amp, though mono's even better),
Pass Aleph 5 (Aleph 3 is not quite enough for me w/Aerius i)
Krell kav-150a
Krell kav-250a
Krell ksa-50 (any series, though Mark II is liked)
Bryston 3B-ST (This is plenty, 4B-ST is great too, but the 3B does a VG job)
Classe CA-150 or above
Conrad Johnson 11a (70 watt tube amp ...plenty of power)
Sonic Frontiers Power 2 (Huge amp, perhaps 110 lbs, circa $2K used)
McCormack DNA 1 and .5 and the newer series (though only heard the older)...

A good integrated will drive them too ; I won't mention the one I'm selling !

In general, the Aerius i is not as tough as the larger ML's . It drops very low , below 2 ohms, but only way up in the treble where there is little information (so it doesn't tax the amp often or much) VS. the SL3 which has a much more difficult impedence curve all through the audio band.

On a budget, I'd say the Bryston 3B-ST at around $900 used , McCormack DNA .5 at around $650 used matched with the Adcom 750 passive pre would be hard to beat (Krell kav-150a used around $1100 would be also somewhat cheap and good).

A sound I liked ...Sony XA7ES CD, Pass Aleph P pre, Aleph 0's stereo and JPS cables ,...also very much liked the VK-200 with VK5i ..

Martin.
