This helps. I think at the $1000 price point, you are going to be pretty much limited to a good 5 channel Dolby Digital rec. Separates are going to be beyond your budget. This is not a big issue as there certainly are good recievers to be had for $1000 and well under. The ones I'd consider first would be the Outlaw, Sherwood Newcastle, and HK. All are good quality. Start out by looking for the features that are important to you such as controls and connections. Consider where you'll be buying it from. If you don't feel comfortable with the seller, go elsewhere.
