You're close - not above, but right at $2,000 with the stands. A lot to pay for a two-way with a 6-1/2 inch woofer.

Add a couple of good active 12" or "15" subs to provide solid low end, high pass the MLs at 100 Hz or so, and you've got a nice pair of three-ways for $3,500 or more.

Actually, a person could set the "bookshelfs" on the subs, and eliminate the stands, saving $400 plus tax.

Not so much. There are a lot of six-to-eight inch two-ways out there, some quite good. (All need woofers.)
