John Elison,
For me the magic combo was Thiels 'n tubes. I loved my 3.7s on my CJ Premier 12 tube monoblocks (140W/side). They maintained that vividness and sonic density I loved in the Thiels, but rounded out and warmed up the sound so it was both dynamic, precise and organic.
I only sold them due to their size, visually, and replaced them with the slightly smaller 2.7s which sound very similar. (I also added Joseph Audio Perspective 2 graphene speakers which I love too).
