I had read various versions over the years.
Yes, Dick was a "true believer" in the transformative power of music.
Funny, his first live (albeit PA-assisted) concert included Joseph Fuchs, whom I heard live when I was in college. Fuchs is a perfect example of the unfairness of the music biz. He was not a flashy player. But he had more than enough technique for Mozart, and I do not believe I have ever heard a live violin performance that surpassed his for pure musicianship and devotion to the music.
The more I learn about loudspeaker design, the more I am impressed by Dick's courage in releasing a totally radical, designed-by-ear loudspeaker that impressed me so much that it eventually was the subject of my The Absolute Sound series "A Stereo for Mr. Stevens."
Those were the days.
