something more akin to your IRS but scaled down? Magnepan MC1s are typically used for multi-channel surrounds (as I use my pair) but lend themselves pretty well in other spaces as well. The nice thing is they can be wall mounted and can swivel flat when not in use. Only good to 80 hz but easy to hide a small sub if desired.
About the same budget as what you're considering. I remember the dealer who I worked for in college called that brand Woof-Dull.
