RE: LS3/6 vs LS5/8 vs LS5/9??

Haven't heard any of the new versions of any of the 3 speakers although decades ago I auditioned the original Rogers LS3/6 which was typical BBC sound with a slight warm glow added to the sound that was certainly coloration but the most beautiful coloration I ever heard. I lived with the original Rogers LS5/8 in the early 1980s, the one that unlike the new passive one was actively driven with electronic crossover and modified Quad 405 amplification. For its day it was superb, clear and dynamic> I wished I could have afforded it since it made my Bowers and Wilkens DM6 speakers sound veiled. If you can find a copy there was a review in Stereophile in the early 80s.

The LS5/9 and LS3/6 are comparable in size and loudness ability. The LS5/8 is in a larger category and not direct competition. But I'll bet the 3 speakers have comparable BBC type sound given their pedigree. But if your room is large and/or you play loud go with the larger LS5/8.
