Was a time when those brands supplied the OEM and DIY markets, as well as making their own finished systems. LOTS of high end manufacturers used their (truly excellent) drivers, and had to mutate or perish when those drivers became unavailable. Fortunately we still have SEAS, ScanSpeak, Accuton, Morel, and others, who continue to sell raw drivers of the highest quality.
But even Dynaudio and Focal continue to revise their established lines of finished speakers, and come out with new models on a regular basis. As do JBL, KEF, and a number of others who make their drivers in-house. Too many consumers demand new-improved-bigger-better-faster-more for them to do otherwise.
