RE: Why do they discontinue successful......

For large companies When sales plateau, they need a new product to hype and send through the review cycle. They tend to tweak something, put a new name or number on the front and charge more.

Sometimes it's new and better but not always. Sometimes it's meeting the needs of the current demand or hype.

I have found a number of products over the years where the older version sounded better or was better than the new model.
