Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

"May not be the last word in accuracy"

But then, what speakers are? Sure, there are any number of conventional dynamic and planar speakers out there with a flatter frequency response, less timbral coloration, and more coherent time/phase characteristics. There are also plenty without. But what none of them "get" the way horn speakers do is truly lifelike dynamics, both macro and micro. The higher sensitivity of compression drivers in horns allows them to respond faster, with lower distortion, to the tiniest variations in input voltage, and thus sound scary-real. This also counts as an important aspect of "accuracy," and one that lower-sensitivity speakers simply can't do.
