In 2008, Totem's The One was my main speaker. We used Sumiko's single-pillar Franklin & Lowell stands. With the carpet-piercing spikes, the F&L stand is stable. Its top plate uses a full sheet of Sorbothane, which secures the speaker. Other than stubbed-toes at the base, this is relatively child-proof.
My daughter was born in 2008. When she was able to stand, she'd clamber up to The One, press her ear near the woofer. She loved The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star."
My kids got bigger, and my 15x19 room was ready for larger speakers. I then drove The One down to an audiophile acquaintance, who lived a little closer to San Diego, than Orange County. At the time, elephant seals, which normally like to come ashore between San Luis Obispo and Marin Counties, were actually spotted in La Jolla.
At the time, The One was perfect for this audiophile. But then, his son graduated from college, and actually did not return home. The son gathered his belongings, and moved out. The audiophile was left with more space, which opened up the option of getting larger speakers.
I am receiving a healthy dose of emails, asking how the Totem Sky compares to other speakers. Maybe I can convince the audiophile above, to be my writing partner on such a post. After all, he's since auditioned several loudspeakers, and thus, is in good position to construct such a post.
