Vandersteen Quatros

Two years ago I traded in my Vandersteen 2ce Signatures for a pair of Goldenear Triton Ones. The Tritons impressed me in the large showroom. I tried to make them sound good in my smaller 12 foot wide by 21 foot deep by 7 foot high room. I couldn't. I listen primarily to classical music. The upper mids and lower highs, coming from that ribbon tweeter especially, were assaulting my ears, no matter what positioning or room treatments I tried. So I decided to demo a 10 year old pair of traded-in Vandersteen Quatro Woods, which were installed today by my local dealer. Tonight as I write this, I'm listening to Brahms third symphony on vinyl, an audiophile reissue. The smoothness, cohesiveness and ease from glare, with no loss of detail and actually an improvement in detail, spacial cues. and a sense of rightness that I'm hearing right now is a revelation. I'm relaxing for the first time in 2 years. I'll be deciding on whether to keep these, which sound wonderful, or go with the new Wood CT. I'll report more in the coming days!
