Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Inmate help with instructions.

This assumes you will run speaker wire to the sub and use the speaker level output terminals on the sub to the monitors.

You need to know the crossover frequency for the high pass filter. A good starting point is to look at your monitor specs and identify their low frequency -3db point and the nominal impedance of the monitors. Put this info into this calculator in the link and use 8 ohms for the low pass number (the program needs this field to work, but you don't need the inductor it calculates). The C1 value is the calculated capacitance. Then call Parts Express and get a suitable cap. They will help you select the right type and voltage rating. Order 2 caps. Solder the cap in series with the speaker wire to the positive speaker wire to the monitors. One per speaker.

I'm an electrical engineer slo these instructions seem ok. Other inmates may have easier to use instructions. It is worth doing to get a better sub.
