For a brief period I was making recordings of acoustic classical music for Canberra's oldest local community FM station. Artsound FM.Our kit consisted of an extendable mike stand, a stereo bar for ORTF array using two Rode cardioid condensor mikes / a mount for a crossed pair single Rode with the same capsules.
When editing and normalising the concerts for broadcast, at their studios which used B&W 8" 2-ways (steep even order slopes) - I found I had no particular preference for the two arrays
At home through my spheres, again no particular preference, but much clearer differences. And, I 'felt' that with some concerts I'd have preferred the alternative array!
I was still learning about where to PUT the array, with each space / group.
Close was never successful. Requiring a gentle wide-band 0.5 to 1.0db warming up from 1k down, and even then I didn't like the result much!
