It's great to have great imaging, but in order to have it, you have to have a recording which CONTAINS great imaging, and this is not common. The absolutely best imaging I've ever heard was at Siegfried L.'s home, but we were playing recordings which were meticulously engineered and produced. This is not to say that there aren't "common" recordings which have great imaging, but to dwell on that goal in the playback environment for most recordings and most playback environments is a bit obsessive.
No, it's not over-rated. But it IS secondary to what we might call "fidelity".
