It is a look. The look of money!
If you see them in person they don't look as bad as you think. A taste in design but really not that bad. If you go into the VERY high end boutique shops a lot of that ultra high priced stuff has exotic design themes.
Check out the speaker below. And what you don't realize is these speakers are almost 7' high and 3' deep. A spaceship prop if I've even seen one and at $200k.
