RE: Do you put pads under speakers?

I have Vandersteen 5A speakers which come with spikes/cones under the cabinets. The speakers stand on French travertine tile and to protect the tile, I have small brass cups that have a dimple into which the spikes rest. Even though the speakers are over 100 lbs each, they were hopping up and down making a buzzing kind of sound that took me a long time to locate. I put some electrical tape under each of the protectors (between the floor and the protector), and the buzing went away. I would still recommend spikes if the floor is sturdy.
