Dome midrange DIY rear enclosure

It's been many years since I have logged in to AudioAsylum. It became addictive in the past...I hope it won't be now, haha.

Have any of you speaker hobbyists built one of these rear chambers? I've had some Dynaudio Esotar 2 inch domes for many years now, still never built a project for them. They sound like nothing else, and yet I think I could get them to go slightly lower (besides sound better)...perhaps 600 to 700Hz...if I removed the back cup (which feels like thin steel or aluminum...and it resonates quite a bit with not much input). I'd like to build a large tapered rear chamber, perhaps a transmission line, probably out of layered MDF. Carbon Fiber would be better, but I'd like to keep cost below that...and I like the idea of a wood chamber.

I like this midrange driver so much that, I'm still not sure if any tweeters currently exist which could match it. Ideally I'd like to use this mid dome with little or no padding down, so I'd want a tweeter that is high in sensitivity. I don't really need the tweeter to go below 5 or 6 kHz. At this point, I'm thinking Scanspeak would need to make a next-generation version of their Beryllium dome with stronger magnets and higher sensitivity (perhaps even a smaller 21 mm version)...preferably with a one piece coil former / dome...whether that winds up being Beryllium, diamond, or some other composite...time will tell. It won't be cheap, that's for sure.

If you would like to criticize or otherwise slam Dynaudio or soft dome midranges in general, your info won't be very helpful to me. I know 2 inch soft mid domes aren't prevalent in the industry, but I don't care. I've heard enough systems to know the industry is losing something by not using this particular driver. It's not perfect, but it is unique...with extremely high sensitivity, extreme detail and neutrality, and just a tonal "rightness" that I obviously enjoy. As much as I like the tonal richness of some of Dynaudio's smaller midwoofers, I feel they are a bit too slow and not quite neutral enough, to pair with this midrange (although I'm sure the Confidence 5 from a decade or more ago, is still a wonderful speaker!)

Anyway, Cheers and thanks for reading!
