I don't think you're going to be particularly successful with consumer audio equipment.You need
a) extreme ruggedness
b) very high SPL compared to typical home environment (100 meters!)
c) controlled directivity
d) high electrical efficiency (you won't have power outlets in a rainforest)
e) calibrationwhich you would get with "pro-sound" (think stadium) equipment, but most importantly advice from a scientifically-trained pro-sound engineer.
If you want significant low frequency output with substantial output, there is no substitute for physical size. The cutoff frequency though
