RE: What is a good speaker upgrade for me?

Audio Note J or E. Preferably in corners - but it's not absolutely necessary.

Both are more than your budget so you'd have to look used - or possible a AN E Kit but it will still likely be over budget.

Not a big fan of inexpensive floorstanders - not a big fan of floorstanders period. Under 2k The Roksan TR-5 loudspeaker is very good but you'll need your sub (although it has solid bass weight). The ribbon tweeter is one of the better ones and unlike most speakers using very different drivers it actually integrates properly.

Whatever you do buy used - your money will go much further and you'll get a bigger upgrade. You want to make sure you get an upgrade everywhere in the sonic landscape and not spend the money and get better bass but take a downgrade in three other areas that your Spendors do better. Otherwise you're spinning your wheels and you'll wind up back on here.

The suggestions we give you are somewhat futile since I doubt anyone has heard the specific combination of gear that you own. You're best able to tell when you audition which things you can live with and without.

To me I'd wait till you can afford something like the AN J or E. Those will be massive upgrades - $2kish speakers typically won't be - at least not enough IMO to make the expense truly worthwhile. Spendor is no slouch.
