I agree with you about shows

It would be unfair for a professional reviewer to trash a piece of equipment heard at a show. Too many variables.

But if a full review of something turns out "God Awful", to say nothing? Just pack it up, send it back, and then change the subject when someone asks, "What happened to review of X you promised?” To me, that lacks integrity.

Even if it was a simple "Mom always told me, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." that would be enough.
