RE: Is the Tannoy System 215 DMT II Great?

This speaker is for bigger rooms which is why the amplifier power recommendation is so high. In your room 50 watts would be more than enough. Depends more on the minimum impedance and they don't provide that that I saw.

I heard this speaker in South Korea and it is very very good in both just listening to it (not a studio) and it was stunning in a pub where the owner loves his music and was running a tube McIntosh - (the only good McIntosh I've ever heard) and it didn't have a ton of power and it filled a large room at high levels with solid bass. And the room acoustics were not great and they were not on a dedicated stand and they STILL sounded very good. I stayed in that bar longer than any other.

I don't know if $4k is a good price or not - I think if memory serves that it is a good price and that it retailed in the $12k-$16k range - but I can't remember. I do know that I was puzzled to see Tannoy drop it from their line-up.

It is a BIG loudspeaker so 13 X 15 might be overkill. The Tannoy Kensington SE I also very much liked and you may find it used cheaper and it might be more suited to the room. Still the 215 has Thunder.
