Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

...maybe.

I'm currently wrestling with a similar dilemma, driving the upperbass/MR/treble of 89db-insensitive, 4-Ohm speakers with 12-Watt SET amps. I won't repeat all again; pls read my comments at the linked site.

If the Se-40 has 40 Watts per channel, you may well have enough power, and with 2 of them biamping the 3As, you'll have 3dB more headroom.

As for 'controlling' the woofer, it's not black and white, as if tubed amps can't and sand amps can. If you require highly damped bass, sand amps are better at doing that. If you prefer naturally blooming bass, tubed amps sound just fine, especially if you use the correct lowest-impedance output tap.
