Referencing the September thread linked below, I wanted to thank posters Nolitan777, mauimusicman, Nicholas Renter, bokat57, departure, Atver, mbnx01, plantsman, and Bob Neill for all the comments and suggestions.
In the end I bought three pairs of one-owner speakers (7ES-2, Callisto, Bliss) so that I could have all of them in-house at once. It was easy to hear why each of the speakers have such enthusiastic owners, and I could have kept any of them. Although plantsman was correct in the September thread, in that I quickly established a clear preference, I held onto them for a number of weeks so that I could thoroughly enjoy them all. The Reynaud Bliss speakers stayed, and are now partnered with an Audiomat Prelude Reference integrated amp.
This sure wasn't a way to get instant gratification in a speaker upgrade, but doing it this way left me confident in my choice--given my musical priorities and room of course. Thanks a bunch. Had I not mined the gold in here I could have instead spent years thrashing about.
Jim
ps--I would be remiss if I didn't also thank Bob Neill for his generosity of spirit, even after it became clear that I wouldn't be working with new/demo units as would have been my preference (but that's another story). Thanks, Bob.
