Planars - tone and timbre

Some ppl seem to favor planars & claim they are "natural" on acoustic instruments - horns, etc. I think they do stand-up bass well but on saxes they do not sound natural: the tone seems a little bleached or thin usually.

Am I alone in this? Is it really true? Do dynamic speakers just seem to do better tone?

I'm talking about Maggies mostly. Quads, ESLs I have not heard in too long.
