Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Most likely OK for 50 Hz.

There are no motors or clocks within. The power supply for the system is probably a switching supply, which would not care about line frequency. Even a linear supply should have enough design margin to handle 50 Hz power safely.

When you first plug it in, listen closely at the back of the woofer cabinet and unplug it quickly if you hear hum from within. It would have been better to get a larger step-down transformer, as the speaker system power rating is close to the transformer rating. It is usually recommended to use a transformer rated for twice the load rating. You may hear some mechanical hum from the transformer, and it may get warm. Also, on-line reviews indicate the DIN plug for the speaker wires is fragile and difficult to get repaired.
