The background hiss issue is a couple of years old, from what I know Event addressed that sometime in 2009. Mine are dead quiet, unless you place your good ear right up against the tweeter and concentrate real hard. I've never heard of hum being an issue with the Opals.
I did not hear the Dynaudio BM6a, but have listened to the BM15a, I used to work at a Dynaudio dealership. Never liked the sound of Dynaudios, don't like the way they soften and smear the vowels and consonants of music. They always reminded me of the "filtered" sound you get from Philips classical recordings from the 70's and 80's. If I were looking for a smaller, lighter speaker around $1500-1800 I'd look seriously at the Klein & Hummel, er, Neumann O110. I owned the O410's before moving apartments and buying the Opals (the O410's were just too much for the new, smaller apartment) and the K&H are terrific speakers.
