Re: Enclosure volume (Vb)

The box volume (usually called Vb) is the volume of air inside the enclosure. Technically, this excludes the driver magnet (or any other portion of it that extends into the enclosure). However, this may only change Vb by a few percent, so reallistically, it may not matter.

The enclosure volumes noted previously were without stuffing. A rule of thumb is that stuffing the enclosure can increase Vb (in effect) by as much as 15 to 25 percent. Depends on how much of the air volume is taken up by the stuffing, and what type of stuffing.

Example:

Unfilled box (18.00 x 11.25 x 7.00) => .82 cu ft
Filled box (1.15)x(17.25 x 10.63 x 6.75) => .82 cu ft (effective)

You could experiment with the stuffing you have (1/4 full, 1/2 full, 2/3 full of stuffing, etc). The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook is a good source on the subject of enclosure filling. You might also search on the web to find out more about it.

As far as particulars on your Krell amp, don't know what ohm rating it has. Perhaps someone else on the list could help with that.
