Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Gotta disagree with ya Hyperion.

Although I bow to your technical prowess, Hyperion, I cannot agree that the GP's are the lease refined, but for the 'tinos of the SF line. I have owned the Concerto's for 2 years, then the EA2 for 6 months and now have had the GP’s for about 9 months, I have also dabbled with ProAc 2.5's, B&W DM3000, M805's, and the KEF Ref 2, the latter is a point of embarrassment for me.

I am currently home demo-ing the Bel Canto Evo with the GP's. After spending a significant time dialing in the Bel Canto & GP relationship I have come to the startling conclusion that the bass dynamics are one, but of many, of the GP's strengths. Add to it the low-level resolution the Bel Canto has and the bass dynamics become stunning. When I had my Concertos I also had a REL STORM II, comparatively the BEL Canto GP combo carry more weight and just plain authority that the Concerto/REL combo. In fact, I have had a new experience with this current set up: the "stage" going well below the floor. I have listened to many systems that had a presentation that extended well beyond the walls...but never below the floor. It has become like the whole listening environment is elevated and floating in the space around me. This cannot, nor could it be, achieved with anything less that a completely competent and dynamic low end. I find my current listening sessions have become physical experiences, more body jumping, writhing and general bopping to the music like it never has. Granted, I am bragging a lot on the amp, but the speakers are the "messengers" and nothing has been lost in the translation.

In sum, the GP’s have every bit of detail and resolution throughout the spectrum as any of the “Concert” line of speakers. They have more “body” than the Concertos, more everything than he Concertinos. Yes, the Signums, and EA2…and GH and AH are “better” speakers. But the GP’s stand on solid ground.
