First, belated welcome on your return SPL, and kudo's on your more restrained approach. IMHO many inmates will now more thoroughly read your posts with at least partially opened minds. Understand?... that's a different story.

In my own case a growing family and restriction on space to dedicate to Extreme Audio Treatment, led to the requirement to share the listening room with the "living" room. It was either that or the TV Room! Purely by accident (synchronicity?), a diagonal placement of furniture and the audio gear occurred during one of our redecorating projects. "hey dear, if we move the speakers over here, we can listen while we paint"

Spaced about 8 feet apart, 1.5 feet from the side walls, and firing diagonally across to the L-shaped dining alcove, I'm getting the smoothest bass and widest soundstage yet in this room. Both the speakers and the room are still too small for extremely low bass extension.
An experiment with powered 12" subwoofer in vented enclosure revealed the room's limitations! Trying for anything below 40 in this room just messes things up too much, and there is not much chance of incorporating adequate treatment in the form of traps.

"Not in my living room you don't!, sweetie"

So try it, could work for you
