Re: Keilidhs or Kabers?

24.69.48.15

Jonas, I've listened to various Linn speakers over the years, and previously owned several piece of Linn gear, including Keilidhs. While I've yet to run across the Ninka in the local dealer, I wonder if it is not a replacement for the Kaber.
Keilidh's still seem to be on current demo, with recently updated cosmetics, while the Kabers were discontinued last year. The specs and dimensions for the Ninka seem more in line with the Kaber.

Notice how Linn's newer speakers over the last few years are very "video friendly", shielded magnets on the drivers, cute little enclosures, including plastic wall mounts, for direct radiating rear surrounds, ported 3 ways etc. and even in walls.
Coming soon a self powered isobarik Komputer monitor for $3k/pr?

It will be interesting to hear if this new model is a sonic improvement over the original 1989 Kaber design. IMHO the Keilidh is still more bang for the buck, particularly when considering the total outlay in amplifiers/active XO required to extract the maximum additional performance in extension/dynamics etc from the Kabers over their little brothers.

That's right folks, minimum passive bi-amp - and good luck fiddling about trying to avoid buying the Linn black boxes to attain correct active EQ, phase impedance and amplitude correction by ear.
Take a look at the passive XO and particularly the dedicated active circuit modules for a lesson in "keep it not simple"
I think you'd need full LEAP/LMS or MLSSA setup and understanding to achieve close to correct modeling results.

Not inviting flames, but in this price range once should also audition the BW N803 & 804, particularly on medium powered (EL34/6550) P/P tubed gear

Hey, the differing opinions when stated respectfully, are what make this discourse enjoyable. Unfortunate that some posters (poseurs?) don't seem to get that!
Otherwise you might as well be talking to audio salesperson, nice as many of them are, they are in BUSINESS.

just one fool's opinion
cheers
