ok, i'm home now and checked out the speaker. it's as randyb says: the crossovers have come loose and one of the terminal connections broke off. i soldered the connection but my hand is too big to reach the crossover from the front woofer hole. i reassembled the speaker and they now work. however, the crossover now is just kind of hanging off the terminal cup.[both speakers] this should not be a problem as long as i don't move them very much.randyb was very kind in his offer. i think i will leave them as they are unless the terminal breaks again. thanks to sean for steering me in the right direction. how do they sound? well, i've only been listening for about half an hour, but so far they really sound nice. these may be keepers. to anyone thinking about buying a pair, i would make sure your getting a later pair that has this problem corrected.while the twin appears to be a runaway value, i find the thought of a crossover mounted by a sticky pad kind of lame. i'll post further thoughts after i get to know the speaker. mer
