"The tweeter blends fine. I have it well padded down, so it adds some sparkle without drawing attention to itself. I haven't yet tried listening without the tweeter."I wish I could try a pair. They are just too darn expensive to buy new and to find out I prefer the sound without them. I've been looking for a used pair for like a year now. : (
"The crossover is 2nd order with resonance trap and notch filter on the 4001, crossover points at 800 and 8000. Last night I tried a cascaded 1st order but that didn't sound good - don't know why. Need to do some measurements. I'm building some SETs with the aim of bi-amping - I'll have a passive line-level crossover built into the amps."
It seems you have a horn like mine. I biamp and run the horn all the way down to like 180 cycles electrically. The horn itself falls off at 3rd order starting at around 650-80 cycles. Then I blend the TAD midbass/horn in at around 630 cycles with a 24 db slope. Weird, but I really like the way it sounds. It does measure pretty nice in my room with this configuration.
"Sorely tempted by the idea of a large lower-mid horn. Those Sierra-Brooks jobs are very handsome, but shipping to the UK would cost a fortune."
Mine (26")are on their way to me right now, I'll post my thoughts on them here after I get them setup in my system. The shipping may not be that bad, maybe Victor can have them dropped shipped to you. Be prepared for a long wait, it takes a full week to turn one horn.
Mike
