ACI Sapphire III Speakers

Seems like the Sapphire III get a never ending review here on this forum.

Well, I bought my Sapphire II (Kevlar dome) in "91 and was immedately blown away by the natural reproduction of human voices. Over time I did get somewhat irritaded by the harsh kevlar tweeter.

Half a year later I added a pair of Sub one's to them.

As the Titanium dome became available, I upgraded to the titanium dome, which smoothened the tweeter somewhat.

I still found the speaker lacking in warmth, but kept the speakers for it's other stenght, such as soundstaging, detail, naturalness etc.

Than just a few weeks ago I upgraded to the Sapphire III. (Should have done that long time ago) I found a used Scan Speak D 2905/9500 on the internet and hoped that ACI would just sell me the crossover for the kit price minus the tweeter, which they never really wanted to do. So I ended up with purchasing the whole kit, using the 9500 tweeter. (I'm selling the 9300 right now over the internet).

First impressions - I immediately heared the extended highs of the tweeter, similar to the Titanium dome, but much smoother. Well, after burn in, the sound did improve drastically. The highs now became much smoother - "can I say perfect???" and the mids warmed up too.

The only draw back I see compared to the Titanium dome is that the Titanium dome had a little better focus, which may have to do with the more Razor sharpe high frequenzy response, which I don't miss.

Great speaker for the money.

P.S. Bi amping my subwoofers with an aditional amp REALLY freed up the sound of the Sapphires by at least 2 Classes.

Keep on raving about the Sapphire III
