Re: Finally Heard A Good Sounding Pair of Klipsch

I really don't know what you found the matter with the old Klipsch Forté. I listened to them fairly extensively, and found them to be a very fine speaker, better than the big La Scalas and Korner Horns, IMNSHO.

A Klipsch representative put on a demonstration at my dealer's, and the owner invited a number of well-known customers. After the Klipsch representative's presentation was over, we were all left more or less to listen to whatever we wanted to. We had a Bryston 3B amplifier, I remember. Well, no one else suggested anything, so I took one of the old Denon Classical Samplers and put on the beginning of Schubert's 9th Symphony with Otmar Suitner and the Berliner Staatskapelle Orch. That recording is very useful because it really does sound different with different speakers. There were some La Scalas in the back of the room, but we listened to the Fortés, and I think everyone liked them. Someone wanted to compare them with the KG-4, and we did: the consensus was that whatever the difference in price was, it was worth it. From what I heard later, I think they sold at least three pairs of Fortés that night--probably based on my demonstration!

The balance is a bit brighter than I would prefer, but they were quite smooth and listenable; it would be interesting to see what the "tilt" control on the Quad preamp would do for them.
