Hi Everyone,
I hope that you are having a great New Year so far!
I am still looking for new main speakers for my rig and hoping that maybe I could get some more input on the direction to take. The old saying that "it is the speakers stupid" keeps ringing in my head.... I love listening to both vinyl and CD's; a lot of my favorites I have on both platforms and listen to the one that sounds better.
Here is my current rig:
Cartridges - Dynavector DV-20xl (Grado Platinum & Green as backups)
Turntable - Rega P3
PhonoStage - Audio Research PH-3 (recently re tubed)
CD Player - Marantz SA11-S1
Interconnects - Kimber Silver Streaks
Integrated Amp - Primaluna Prologue One (All stock tubes have been replaced and all that are in it are good tubes)
Speaker Cable - Anti-Cables
Speakers - Paradigm Studio 60v4's
I have made several changes in the system recently to try to get more detail out of it. Getting rid of the Monster speaker cable in favor of the Anti-Cable's has helped a lot. After doing that a bad 12AU-7 was found in the Prologue so that was changed to a new RFT (Thank you Jim McShane). The only other item that I have committed to is a new CornetII PhonoStage that will hopefully be here today.
The other changes that I am considering in the system are:
1) Replacing the Turntable to get better tonearm wire
2) Replacing the amp
3) New after market power cables
4) Replace the speakers
Whenever the list gets this long... "it is the speakers stupid" keeps ringing in my head!
The system sounds good right now but I would like to have better mids and highs and keep the bass that Studio 60's present. What I am after... D@mn to answer that one is tough! The absolute best that the mids and highs have ever sounded were with a pair of Merlin TSM-MMe's that I had prior to the Studio 60's. I no longer have the Merlins so I cannot plug them in and play them...
Thoughts, impressions and advice on what I should do next is welcome but please remember that I have a budget to keep in mind and there are not a lot of audio stores close to me so I cannot go listen to much (B&W/Paradigm/Revel is about it locally)...
Brian
