I love to listen to music from my college days in the '70s. However, as I get older, I don't enjoy crashing cymbals and rock-based treble as much. In other words, I still like the Who but only with the best treble presentation.
I have Paradigm Reference Studio 20 speakers with aluminum or titanium tweeters (not sure), as opposed to silk domes. They sound very good with audiophile vinyl but digital is more dubious. I hope to buy better speakers with silk domes at some point.
I'm wondering if it is feasible to buy and install silk dome tweeters to refine the treble until I can afford to buy new speakers? The photo may not be the exact model but it indicates the general type of Paradigm tweeter on my speakers. I loosened the screws and removed the tweeter and learned that the holes are 3" in diameter with extra cut-outs for the wire, so the opening is sort of shaped like Mickey Mouse's head with the ears being the cut-outs. There is only about 1/4" of space below the tweeter hole and the top of the midbass. I don't have any experience modding speakers but I've done some basic electronic DIY projects.
Would this just involve getting a silk dome speaker of the right size and spec and swapping them out?
