VR-5SEs - wanted: alternative M/T cone choices...

The stock cones are apparently rubber-over-metal, to protect finish. In my experience, use of rubber in such apps eats music. My experiments with other footers under the M/Ts seem to confirm this. I'm looking to replace them with identical bare metal (brass), wood, or ceramic cones.

Does anyone have the exact spec on the threaded rods inside the cones? I'm having a hard time getting those specs from AVS and I'm not sure how to accurately measure them myself.

Any experiences?

Thanks!

EDIT: Correction- the OEM cones are all-rubber (high durometer) with metal threaded rods inside them. Yarrrg! What I really need are brass male/female rails/brackets bolted on at the four corners of the woofer and M/T respectively. The brackets, once mated, could be locked into place with heavy brass screws. I feel that gravity is not enough to lock in the M/T.
