Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

the 104/2 are a constant 4ohm load

they are conjugate loaded, so they are pretty much never above or below 4ohms (except the tweeter), so they should be easy for a solid state amp to drive.

i did have a pair of 104/2 with vifa MG27-04 tweeters installed. the T33b tweeters are notorious for the ferro-fluid drying up and strangling the voice coil. the vifas dropped right in there and sounded really good.

i never got past the funky bass though. sorta rolled off, yet boomy at the same time. these are older 104/2 with rubber woofer surrounds, so no foam rot. the anulus (center surround) around the force cancelling rod looked fine.

i expected the loose bass with my McIntosh MC60s - not enough current. but sounded sorta the same, but better with both my Quad 405-2 and Quad 909 (both sold).

i decided to sell them and keep my KEF Calinda now those are some beautiful sounding speakers! think big LS3/5A.

I've been rockin' my Yamaha NS-1000M lately though.

see ya,
Robby
